Parallel
Two planets with similar declination - like a soft conjunction.
A parallel forms when two planets share a similar declination within a tight orb (often around 1°). It is interpreted like a conjunction but usually more subtle.
Example
Sun at 18°N and Jupiter at 18°N form a parallel — reinforcing confidence, optimism, and a sense of purpose, even if the two aren't aspected in the zodiac.
Cultural Context
Parallels were more prominent in traditional astrology before the zodiac dominated. They operate 'behind the scenes' — reinforcing or creating connections between planets that appear unrelated in the standard chart. Some astrologers call them 'hidden aspects.'
Famous Example
Beyoncé has Venus parallel Mars — combining love and drive in ways that reinforce her Venus conjunct Mars in her zodiacal chart. When parallels echo standard aspects, the theme is amplified; when they don't appear in the zodiac, they reveal hidden connections.
