Asteroids add fine-grained archetypes to a chart. They are best read as modifiers: secondary but meaningful when tightly aspected or on angles. Most astrologers focus on a short list rather than tracking hundreds.

An asteroid conjunct Venus can add a specific relationship theme to how love is expressed.
Cultural Context
The 'Big Four' asteroids (Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta) were discovered 1801-1807, all named after goddesses. Feminist astrologers in the 1970s championed their inclusion, arguing the classical planets were mostly male archetypes. Today, these four plus Chiron are the most widely used asteroids.
Famous Example
Astrologers noted that asteroid Nessus was conjunct Harvey Weinstein's natal Sun — Nessus being associated with abuse of power and karmic consequences. While asteroid work is subtle, dramatic cases like this spark ongoing research.
