Imum Coeli (IC)

The deepest point in your chart - your roots, home, and private self.

The Imum Coeli (IC, or "bottom of the sky") is the cusp of the 4th house, directly opposite the Midheaven. It represents your private life, family of origin, psychological foundations, and what you need to feel at home. While the MC is your public face, the IC is your private sanctuary.

Example

A Cancer IC suggests deep ties to family, a need for emotional security at home, and possibly living near water.

Cultural Context

The IC corresponds to midnight — the darkest, most hidden point of the daily cycle. Latin 'Imum Coeli' means 'bottom of the sky.' In psychological astrology, this point represents your deepest self, childhood conditioning, and what you need to feel fundamentally secure.

Famous Example

Kanye West has Neptune on his IC — dissolving boundaries around home and heritage, creativity mixed with family matters, and sometimes confusion about roots. His constant home renovations and unconventional family arrangements reflect Neptune's fluid influence on his foundations.

Did You Know?

The IC traditionally describes the end of life and final resting place — astrologers sometimes examine IC conditions to understand how someone might experience their final years. More commonly today, it's used to understand your relationship with home, parents, and your sense of belonging.
